Microneedling

As skin ages, the production of collagen and elastin slow significantly. Over time, facial tissues can become lax and wrinkled, looking dull and even unhealthy. Years of sun damage, acne, smoking, and genetic disposition can magnify these issues.

Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a simple procedure to diminish stubborn lines, wrinkles, acne scarring, and stretch marks, dramatically improving one’s appearance. Microneedling is a safe, noninvasive way to rejuvenate the skin without the harsh, damaging side effects of some common procedures. This unique, cutting-edge technique can quickly restore a youthful appearance, with limited downtime.

Micro-needling can correct:

  • Poor skin texture and looseness

The procedure involves the use of the AcuMicro Microneedling Pen. The mechanical action of the pen allows the needles to puncture the skin and create a controlled injury at a specific depth. Each puncture creates a channel that triggers the body’s natural healing process to fill these micro wounds by producing new collagen and elastin in the papillary dermis. In addition, new capillaries are formed for improved blood supply. 

With Microneedling, the top layer of the skin is parted without being damaged, leaving the skin intact. It does not “burn” your skin like peels or more invasive lasers. The needle penetration depth can be adjusted from 0.25 mm to 2.50 mm into the skin depending on the area of the body and the skin condition being treated. Most facial treatments will be limited to 0.25-0.50mm. Using skin microneedling consistently will trigger the body’s repair process until the desired level of skin rejuvenation is achieved.

Microneedling results in the production of new collagen and elastin, improvement in skin tone and texture, firmness as well as reduction in scars, pore size, and stretch marks.

Microneedling Combined With Plant Stem Cell Serums

Microneedling can be used in combination with Hyaluronic Acid and other serums to hydrate and heal the skin. I use medical lab grade Plant Stem Cell serums to address specific concerns such as under eye discoloration and drooping, pigmentation imbalances, & skin firming.

The micro-channels created by the needles allow for deeper penetration of topical serums for more effective results. This procedure can increase the skin’s ability to utilize the nutrients by up to 3,000 %.

How to Care For Your Skin Before and After a Microneedling Treatment

Microneedling is an extremely safe and effective cosmetic procedure. However, as with all treatments, it’s essential to take special care of your skin before and after the procedure for fast recovery and best results.

Microneedling Pre-Treatment Instructions

Following the right pre-treatment instructions ensures that your treatment will go smoothly and helps minimize side effects.

Pre-Treatment Tips

  • Avoid Accutane in the six months prior to beginning your treatment sessions.

  • Do not use topical agents that may increase the sensitivity of your skin such as retinoids, exfoliants, topical antibiotics or acids 5-7 days prior to your treatment.

  • Do not take anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen, Motrin, or Advil for at least 3 days prior to your microneedling session. These will interfere with the natural inflammatory process that is critical for your skin rejuvenation.

  • Avoid IPL/Laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn for at least 2 weeks prior to your procedure.

  • No waxing, depilatory creams, or electrolysis to the area being treated for 5-7 days prior.

  • Do not shave the day of the procedure to avoid skin irritation. If there’s dense hair present in the treatment area, shave the day before you arrive for your appointment.

  • If you’re prone to cold sores, take an antiviral agent for 2 days prior to and the day of the treatment.

  • Avoid blood thinning agents for one week prior because bruising is a common side effect of microneedling.

Day of Treatment 

Knowing what to expect on the day of your microneedling treatment will make this procedure as comfortable and anxiety-free as possible for you.

What To Expect At Your Appointment

  • Your skin will be cleaned so it’s free of lotion, oil, makeup, powder, or sunscreen. If you wish, you can wash your face in the office upon arrival.

  • Inform your provider about any relevant changes in your medical history and of all the medications you’re taking.

  • 30 minutes prior to your treatment, topical lidocaine will be applied to your skin.

  • The full microneedling session is an in-office procedure that typically takes up to 60 minutes to complete.

Post-Treatment Instructions

As with any cosmetic skin treatment, it’s important to look after your skin following a microneedling procedure for best results.

Post-Treatment Tips

  • You will be red for 8-12 hours

    • You may apply aloe vera to help reduce redness

  • Do not exercise for the day after treatment; sweat can irritate the face

  • Stay out of the sun for 24 hours after the treatment.

    • Use mineral sunscreen for 1 week after your microneedling session

  • Refrain from wearing makeup for the day after your treatment

  • Use hyaluronic acid frequently

    • Apply when your skin feels dry and before you go to bed tonight

  • Do not use facial soap for the day after your treatment

  • You may wash your face with just warm water for the day after your treatment

  • You may return to your normal facial routine the day after there t reatment

  • Facial products have a much higher absorption rate after microneedling

  • Remember that it takes up to 2 weeks to fully see results from your microneedling session

  • You must wait 1 month before receiving another microneedling treatment,

    • Nanoneedling may be completed weekly to increase/speed up results

  • Microneedling is an innovative treatment to rejuvenate the skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and scars. Very small needles, in a single, sterilized applicator, are passed over the skin to create a series of controlled ‘micro-injuries’. As the tissue heals, the body’s natural production of collagen and elastic are increased, resulting in healthy, smooth, skin.

  • The number of Microneedling treatments needed will depend on the target area and the extent of correction needed. On average, between one and six microneedling sessions are recommended, spaced approximately four weeks apart. During the consultation appointment, Dan will determine the number of treatments needed to achieve optimal results.

  • Some patients see benefits from Microneedling in only a day or two. However, the results from Microneedling normally take from one to two weeks to appear, as the skin heals and collagen production begins. These results will continue to improve over the next several months.

  • Microneedling is not considered painful. However, to ensure patient comfort, Dan will apply a topical numbing cream prior to the Microneedling procedure.

  • Dan takes great care in his microneedling techniques to ensure the safest, most effective results. While extremely rare, risks of microneedling include pinpoint bleeding, pigment changes, and scarring.
